The research of Molecular Spectroscopy group is focused on the search, development and characterization of new photoactive systems for optical and biomedical applications.
The main lines are:
Multifunctional fluorescent dyes based on BODIPY. This chromophore can be selectively functionalized on demand to modulate the photophysical properties for the development of new laser dyes, sensors, biotrackers, etc
New systems for photodynamic therapy. This line includes the search of photosensitizers for the generation of singlet oxygen and the development of nanoparticles (silica, carbon, MOF) as carriers of those photosensitizers.
Photoactive hybrid materials based on the confinement of fluorescent dyes into different porous framework (i.e. zeolitic systems) to generate optical properties such as white light emission, second harmonic generation, colour switching, etc.
Atomic simulation of the new molecules and hybrid systems to support their design and to help in the interpretation of the resultant properties (optical and mechanical).
